Women in Engineering graduates Ammor, Alisha, Alyssa and Brea will soon start work as trainees on the Chevron-operated Gorgon and Wheatstone facilities.

Applications are now open for the 2021 Women in Engineering Program, delivered by South Metropolitan TAFE in partnership with Chevron Australia.

We’ve worked together since 2010 to deliver the twenty-week course, which offers students valuable foundation skills needed for employment within the oil and gas industry or higher STEM education pathways.

Women in Engineering was designed to remove barriers which often discourage women from entering the resources sector, by pairing a supportive learning environment with unique insights shared by women working in a diverse range of industry roles.

South Metropolitan TAFE managing director Terry Durant said the program has successfully provided opportunities for women to develop skills and technical capability, leading to job opportunities across the industry.

“Chevron Australia have provided excellent mentoring, networking and work experience opportunities for these students, leading to greater diversity in the Oil and Gas and Resources sectors,” said Mr Durant.
"As more women enter these technical engineering roles, we are seeing greater evolution of the workforce and the intrinsic benefits that flow into communities."

Since the program began, 129 women from across Western Australia have completed the Women in Engineering program, with 33 participants progressing to further tertiary education opportunities and 53 finding employment within the oil and gas industry.

Participants receive full tuition assistance from Chevron Australia, as well as mentoring opportunities, and graduate with a Certificate III in Process Manufacturing and Certificate II in Process Plant Operations.

With access to a live gas processing plant training facility, students grow their confidence, capabilities and understanding of safety procedures through hands-on technical experience.

Applications close Friday 7 May. Students must be available for the duration of the 20-week program commencing on Monday 19 July 2021.
